Exercise 1 - Time's Tentacles

Image
Instantaneous Time: So when I think of instantaneous time, I agree with Aubrey "it's a moment that has ended but there's still movement." When I view this photograph below, I see it as a shot that was taken with 0.5 seconds left, meaning that the game was over, but there is still movement featuring hope. So the photograph is something that is relative to only this image.  Stable Time: When I think of stable time, I think of something being "just there", just a moment. In this photo, we can tell what the scene is, which is on a beach during sunset. It is clear to show what most everyone loves: sunsets. This is a moment, just a moment of beauty that makes people happy.

Exercise 1 - Time's Tentacles Take Hold

Image
Instantaneous Time: So when  I think of instantaneous time, it's a moment that has ended but there's still movement. I see this more often when photographers slow down their shutter to get a more blurry image of elements moving. For the photo below, it feels like two moments shown instantaneously as one image. Also, instead of blurring, it feels like the subject has split apart or as she moved her skin became like paint or she has double personalities, like who knows right?! (Found on Pinterest - unknown photographer) Stable Time: This seems like a moment and only a moment. It's clear  and has an objective. In this photo, we can tell the time of year which is winter, she's wearing a bikini made for summer, and on the tv is a show from the past. It feels like she has time mixed up but enjoys herself anyway. A stable moment in time that makes no sense logically. 'Digital Divide' by Claire Bishop - Response

Image
It does seem that  Claire Bishop is bashing artists that are not taking seriously the conveniences of the digital medium. With the convenience of technology and how easy it is to get a hold of it, it's getting harder to tell the difference between what is art that is thought out and prepared compared to what is just an amateur using tech for fun. I really believe that if contemporary art does not accept that we have digital art now then it might be left behind like in theater with film. I have to agree that we should not depend on the digital age to make good art. The rules have not changed, you must create the way you create and not because a new platform or changing of equipment has changed. I found this meme on contemporary art and thought it was funny.
